Our Story
What started as the formation of the Uptown Basketball Academy AAU program quickly revealed the darker side of youth sports. Escalating costs, a lack of meaningful mentorship, and growing obstacles to college exposure opportunities highlighted the inequalities many young athletes face.
Our Mission
At Above the Rim, we believe no child should be left out because of their family’s financial situation. Above the Rim Foundation expands access to high-level basketball, mentorship, and college exposure for young athletes who may otherwise be limited by financial barriers. Through grants, camps, clinics, program partnerships, and educational opportunities, we help athletes compete, develop, and pursue opportunities at the next level.

Sports have been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my best memories and friendships were made on the court, the field, or the baseball diamond.
After wrapping up my basketball career at Widener University, I knew I wanted to stay close to the game. I began coaching 15U AAU basketball, and it quickly became clear how transformative youth sports can be. But I also saw the other side, the rising costs of tournaments, camps, and clinics that make it difficult for many families to keep their kids involved.
That realization inspired me to start the Above the Rim Foundation.
