About the Director

My name is Peter Gard, and sports have been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my best memories and friendships were made on the court, the field, or the baseball diamond.

After wrapping up my basketball career at Widener University, I knew I wanted to stay close to the game. I began coaching 15U AAU basketball, and it quickly became clear how transformative youth sports can be. But I also saw the other side, the rising costs of tournaments, camps, and clinics that make it difficult for many families to keep their kids involved.

 

That realization inspired me to start the Above the Rim Foundation.

At Above the Rim, we believe no child should be left out because of their family’s financial situation. Every young athlete deserves the chance to experience the friendships, confidence, and joy that come from being part of a team. Through fundraisers, grants, donations, camps, and clinics, we work to break down financial barriers and create opportunities for kids to play, grow, and thrive, both on and off the court.
